Several months ago it was proposed that Hwy.62,from Bloomfield to Bancroft be signed as "The Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment Heritage Highway." Ernie Parsons MPP sponsored this as a private members bill. The Bill passed 2nd & 3rd readings with all members in the House voting for it. Many veterans of the "Hasty P's" in WWII came from farms, villages, towns and cities along that corridor. What better way is there to remember and honour those brave soldiers than to have a highway named for their Regiment! Most of them are over 80 years of age and becoming fewer. It would be a wonderful tribute for you and me to get behind this project. Let us not see the Bill stopped at 3rd reading for lack of interest. I would urge all who read this to write to Mr. Parsons, expressing your support. The address is:

Mr. Ernie Parsons MPP
183 Front Street
Belleville, ON
K8N 2Y0.

or send an E-mail to: www.ernieparsons.com

Here is a wonderful opportunity for all those presently serving or have served in,or who have relatives who served in "The Regiment" to encourage Mr. Parsons to pursue this Bill to a favourable conclusion.

Love your site but I am still trying to find anyone who knew my father, Alfred Charles Benstead. He inlisted on September 10, 1939. Dad was born in England but came to Canada in 1910 and grew up in the Kingston area.
If anyone knew him please contact me at my email address and put 'Benstead' in the email subject line.
Thanks in advance,
Bill Benstead.

Great site! My grandfather was in the regiment during WWII, his name is Matthew(Mac)McIntyre. Grandpa is no longer with us and I wished I had talked or tried to talk to him about his life with the Regiment. He did not speak much about it, my grandmther said it was more important to him that he served.

Thanks for your service.

I recently acquired my cousin's service records, Private Eugene Bernard Cassibo who served with the Regiment from 1940 until his death during the battle of Assoro in Sicily.

I have some questiosn about the Regiment's activities during battle and wonder in any photographs of my cousin may exist in Company photos etc.

If there are any Regiment historians out there I wonder if they can assist me?

Regards,

Matt Lacroix

PS-Great site!

My grandmother's brother was Harry Salmon - maj Gen that is. I've been researching his life and have compiled a substantial amount of information about his life.

What I'm missing are some personal stories, and I'd love to talk to someone who was with the H&PER either during 1940 when Salmon was Lt.Col, or during 42, 43 when he was Maj. Gen.

Contact me at rossgkx@xgmail.com (remove the TWO x's from the eamil address to make it work).

For all of the folks who visit the unoffical website of the Regiment, thank you. The regt is strong today and it is very busy. It is and has been a great honour to command this outstanding Regt. I want to remind and encourage present and past members of the Regt to participate in the annual reunion.

Nice to see the regiment is still going strong. I was both a cadet and reservist in Peterborough in the 70's.

As a naval historian, I am interested in 2 Hasty P's who, in about April/May 1940 were "loaned" temporarily to be DEMS (Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships) gunners, probably at Lieth, Scotland. They were Cpl. McGregor and Pte. Newton, and served in the elderly 1,104 ton steamer LANCASHIRE COAST. I would much like to hear from anyone who knows more of this service. Normally these gunners were all Naval, or in Brit. ships sometimes Maritime Regt. Royal Artillery. Is there anything in the Regt'l. diary about this? Were there others? How long did they serve? Etc. My thanks for help. (My gt.-gt. grandfather came out from Ireland to Hastings in 1844!) Fraser McKee

To whom it may concern: I am a collector of WW2 Canadian memorabilia. Recently some one asked me if I was interested in purchasing a WW2 battle blouse once owned by a WW2 veteran. He was supposedly a Major, his name was J.C. Armstrong. He was allegedly in in Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. My sources indicate that there was never a Major serving in that regiment by that name. Am
I correct in assuming this. Regards, Alex Turner

This year (june 06) marks the 50th anniversary of the recruit course intake under the summer student recruit course and as one of those recruits, I wonder how many of us are still around. I know John Sherry (LCOL Rtd) is still actively involved with the Hasty P's as John and I had agreat time on our sep 05 trip to Sicily and Italy. After I left the Regiment in Sept. of 57, I joined the RCAF, and spent 35 years in the service being posted to Vancouver BC, Fontainebleau, France, 6 RD Trenton, Whitehorse, Yukon, NDHQ Ottawa, Northern Region HQ's, YellowKnife NWT, Hq AFCENT, Brunssum Holland, and Finally back to CFB Kingston, where I finally retired as the Deputy Commanding Officer of the Canadian Forces Crypto Maintenance Unit (CWO) I had a thoroughly enjoyable and professionaly rewarding career, and often think back to some great times. Especially our troop train trip to Toronto and the boat ride on the old Cayuga to Niagara on the Lake summer camp, practicing and winning the Silent drill competion against the other militia units and finally performing for the Belleville audience at the fair grounds. These events happened a long time ago but are still fresh in my mind. I wonder how many are still out there who remember them???

Hey! Hey, fellow cadets. I have learned a lot being a part of Cadets in the Hasty Pees corps. 2777 of Campbellford. I also learned the true meaning of friendship and loyalty being a part of cadets. I just want to say; whoever joins cadets, I hope you have fun and learn as much as I did.

Great history. My grandfather served with the Royal Montreal Regiment (MGB) in WWII 39-45. A lot of my family has been in the Armed Forces. I'm kind of continuing the tradition. I'll be applying to the Hasty P's within the next month. Hope to be a Private with you guys soon. Until then, honours to you.

I had no idea what the army would be like, but when I joined the regiment, it put an impression on me that has lasted me all these years. I served 1986-1991, then 1993-1999 & went reg force 1999. I am now getting out the service altogether to work on a oil rig in the gulf. Any hard times that I went through in my carreer, I always thought back to my brothers and remember how as a team we would pull through. I have carried that with me and will always know that someone is whatching my "6". Good luck to all and I'm sure I speak for everyone that I served with the best damn unit in the CF. If anyone needs to see the set standard of a soldier, all they need to do is look at a Hasty-Pee
