Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year ahead to all Hasty P's past and present. I was a Lt. in B Company (Peterborough) during'72-'73 while attending Trent University. Col. Richardson was commanding officer at the time. Hello to Henry Clark and Ron Frye if they should read the guest book. Does anyone know if video has survived of the trooping of the colours in summer of '72. I recall watching tape of the ceremony at the armoury in the fall of '72. Would love to get a copy if possible as I carried the Queen's colour (wearing Maj. Wiggins' dress blues borrowed for the occasion). If not the tape does anyone have a line on photos of the event which show the colour party? Any help would be much appreciated. Paratus! Allan Hubbell

It has been a while since I paid your sight a visit and my apologies. It has been over 5 years since dad's passing now and when I view some of the items on the website, terms and place names flood back from memory of his stories. Saw the one 'Castropignano' (sp?) I believe he had a slightly more colourful version of this one in his volcabulary though!!! Though he seemed to be proud 20 years ago when I did it, I just hope my joining the Navy didn't tear at his heart strings. Fantastic sight--kepp up the excellent work....And see, the Army and the Navy can talk civil to one another!! Yours Aye!

What a change in equipment from my days with the Regiment. For example, summer dress was battle dress wool pants with putties and a cotten shirt. Ties optional. Sweat your arse off in that gear during the summer. Winter was much better eveything wool, except the shirt. Had to wear the wool tie this time, no choice. The excercise or schemes is what I will forever remember. Our trips to Petawawa for field firing of the 3.5 rocket launcher, grenades and the mechanical rifle range blasting away at the enemy. My times working the targets at the rifle range in Barriefield to make every one a crack shot. Many hours doing this. Great time for all. Memorable exercise with the Navy Reserve; shortest boat ride I ever had and the longest march I ever participated in during my time in the Regiment. How do you carry a 81mm mortar barrel and enjoy it or it's associated parts. It was a long night. Does anyone remember this exercise? Enough now. I will forever remember my time in the Regiment and it is a bookmark in my 60 years. To the present members enjoy your experience, it will stay with you forever.Paratus. hello canada ! well where to start , i'm a 24 year old girl from holland . from an early age i got interested about what happend during the 2nd world war . we own a 1942 willy's overland jeep made after the hasting an prince edward regiment .thats how i met carl , a hasty p veteran. i got the chance to go to canada an meet the old and new hasty's (really impressed me ).this year i joined the 48th highlanders of holland pipes and drums (a living monument for the 48th highlanders of canada) as a snare drummer .lately i start to realize that i'm blessed that in got to meet the men that liberated my country and learn so much from them. this long story has a point .... what i want is to kind get a dutch school to "adopt" a regiment so that the childeren can learn more about the war then what's written in the history books . and maybe we can linked the dutch kids with the canadian grandchilderen so that they (together) can keep the memory alive (in holland and canada). i didn't worked it all out yet but hopefully people from canada can help me out with sugestions and adresses (wich i can turn to) or maybe some help getting this of the ground thanks for reading this to all the vetenans THANK YOU GUYS ! LOVE YOU !

Greetings Hasty Pees!
Served in Bravo company from 75-80, Tor Scots 80-81, RHFC 81-83. Left the Reserve in 83. Became an ordaine minister (I know you are all laughing now... but I remember Armstrong and Miller telling me to preach the sermon on the mound on top of a boulder at Summer Concentration in 76!)
I am married to Lori, a psych nurse (I know you are laughing again... she has lots of experience helping me, OK...), have had three daughters, Carragh, Caitlin, and Erinn. Carragh died in 1993 after a 7 year battle with cancer. She was nine.
We have home schooled our kids.
I am what they call "bi-vocational" and earn my living as an adjuster/evaluator. I am involved in the administration of class action lawsuits. It sounds more glamourous than what it is, but I love it. I am also involve in church work, including planting new congregations.
I have a soft spot for the Regiment, and fond memories of my time in Bravo Company.
Cheers to all of you, and may we long remember those in the White Battalion.
We are truly blessed to live in this country, and doubly blessed to have know the comradeship of being a plough jockey!
Paratus!

Served in Bravo Company, Peterborough from 1975 until 1980, and then the Tor Scots, and Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada (Kitchener). I left the Reserves in 1983. I have fond memories of my time in the Hasty Pees. Semper Paratus. Still have a cap badge and red beret. I keep it with pride. Lots of photos from courses and summer concentration. Is there a way to connect with former members? Great sight.

Hi,
My name is Matthew and I am in grade 10, attending St. Joan of Arc Catholic school in Maple, Ontario.
I have a civics assignment for school and I am looking for some reference information regarding " canadian peace keepers ".
In my assignment I need to discuss what kind of peace keepers we have in Canada. What their roles and responsiblities are and how effective I think they are. In fact I was thinking of takig one main current event and follow it through the course it took in the milatary.
For example, I could make my topic " canandian peace keepers " - talk about the structure and main points, goals and sucesses and then detail one tour - like maybe the Canadian peace keeping efforts that went on in Iraq.
Please help me.
It would be great if I could be directed to some websites that could give me these details.

Came upon The Regiment's site while doing research. Saw the notice of passing of Sgt Bob Armitage to The White Battalion. Served with him and his son Alex. Had the honour of seeing Alex pass out on parade up in Peterborough and hit the parade square, broke his jaw, the only time I know of when he couldn't talk, we spent a lot of days in hoochies in Petawawa. Saw my brother, Caleb, had posted a message, I trained him on his recruit course. His buddies on the course asked him what it was like having your father as the course WO, "He is not my father, he is my brother". There is 17 years between us. I am in WATC HQ Wainwright and heading back to Victoria by 31 Aug. Ran into Sgt Coyle who is heading to Belleville to the RQ's position.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who can provide information on Sgt (A/CSM) Wilfred Joseph NOLAN C-4538 who served in Italy during 1943/44 and was awarded the Military Medal for outstanding bravery in the fighting at Moro River in December 1943. My late mother Mrs Florence Mitchell (nee Paine) of Surrey, England corresponded with Sgt Nolan for a time during 1944 having previously met him when he was in the UK. While sorting through my mothers effects I discovered some airmail letters, photos and newspaper cuttings dated March 1944 covering Sgt Nolan's award and stating that he originated from Actinolite, Ontario. If anyone knows what became of the Sgt or can put me in touch with him or any of his relatives I would be grateful.

My late husband, Pte. Vilho Alfred Kivi, served with the The Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment in the first half of 1944 and, possibly, from about June-September, 1943. He may have been known by nicname of Vic or Bill. Driver/Mechanic. Previously he had been with the Lake Superior Regiment since July, 1940. After technical courses in Canada and England in 1942 and in England in 1943, he was probably transferred to the First Division in the Mediterranean. Hospitalized with pneumonia for two months, Oct. and Nov. and part of Dec. '43. Sometime in mid 1944 he was transferred to the Princess Louise Fusiliers and saw service in Italy and Western Europe. Volunteered for CAPF. Have letters from him with Hasty P address in '44 but no mail reached me from June '43 until late December '43 or January '44. Husband was always reticent or refusing to discuss war experience. Unfortunately, also, he was incapacitated last decade of his life. Any information most gratefully received to help me prepare family history. --Dolores Kivi

On Sept 17-23 2005 the Regiment is returning to Sicily and Italy. Our basic itineray includes Pachino Beach, Assoro, Aguira Canadian War Cemetary, the Moro River and Cemetary, and a free day in Rome. Plans are to take 40-60 serving soldiers, a number of our veterans who were there in 1943 and many members of the Regimental Association. As all of you can join the association for $20, I expect that some of you may want to come along. The cost of the trip is $2100 and is a bargain at twice the cost.
One thing we have to do is raise monies to cover the costs of the veterans and serving soldiers. So even if you can only attend vicariously, your donations would be greatly appreciated. Your cheques made out to The Hastings & PER Trust Fund (mail to The Hast PER, 187 Pinnacle St, Belleville ON, K8N 3A5)will assist this project and get you a charitable tax receipt. If you're interested in attending or donating please contact either Capt David Evans or Major Ross Cossar at 613-966-2100.
This is an opportunity that will only come once. Lets all do what we can to support the Regiment in this commemorative venture.
Ross Cossar Major Operations Officer Hast PER

My father's older brother, Harry Brott, served in the Hasty P's and was mentioned in the book 'The Regiment'. He went all through the Italian Campaign, then was deployed to Holland where he was killed at Apeldoorn on Apr. 15, 1945. We have been to see his grave at Holten. I have always wanted to know more about him and haved learned some things from his wife Ruth who is still alive and has never remarried. They were married only a few weeks when he went overseas and had no children. I am even more curious about him since my Dad died. Does anyone have any memories to share?

My wifes Grandfather Donald Caban recently passed away and although I had the opportunity to know this great man for seven years I never had the chance to learn of his military accomplishments while a member of the Hasty Pees. All I know is that he served a good portion of his tour in Italy with his brother Victor Caban. If anyone has any stories or just wants to say hello, my Wife and myself would love to hear from you. Thanks.

I was wondering if there is any way to confirm as to whether this person was indeed a "Hasty P." Regards, Alex Turner

Just finished readying Sgt.Robert Bate recollections in Memories article in the Regimental Journal of Vol 3, #8. Uncle Bob was very proud of his Regiment. Recently,a former H-P at the Norwood Legion told my father, "that tough little s.o.b. saved a lot of our lives in Italy. " What better tribute than those words. Uncle Bob passed away several years ago in his 84 th year. He is Missed.

My uncle, Gordon Dow, served as a sergeant with the Hasty P's from the War's beginning to its end. His tour of duty took him thro' Sicily, up the boot of Italy (Ortona etc) and I believe on to the European front. If anyone out there knew him or about him, I'd be delighted to hear from you. Thank you.

I served in A & HQ Coy in Bellevile from 83-87. Seems almost like yesterday since I left the Regt. It has been quite some time since I have visited this site, and it was nice to see quite a few old names. I Left 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group HQ in Borden in May 03 and am now a Sgt at 32 CBGHQ in the G4 Branch. Had enough of the cold along James and Hudson's Bay. But it was an enjoyable, rewarding time and an experience I will never forget serving with the Rangers and working in the lower Arctic. As well, I will always remember and hold in high regard, my time with the Regiment!!!!!!

cpl barta here. just had a second while surfing the net and i thought i would stop by. for anyone who would like to get a hold of me my address is as follows: cpl mike barta cfsme pat platoon stn forces 17000 oromocto, nb e2v 4j5
what am i doing here?? well i got on the ground on 09 jan 05 and i was pretty much in charge of the pat platoon on the 10th. the warrent i work for is a pretty good guy, and funny too. typical old army!! my cbt engineer course doesn't start until the 10th of may so i will have to kill time while i wait for the magic day when it starts. my plan to be inconspicuous and hide in the back didnt last very long because i am already (or still) in a leadership role. so i guess its true that even the best plans dont last past the first shot. oh well, maybe they will pay me more..lol..i must go now but i will stop by from time to time and i will be back in trenton (and possably ptbo) around the week b4 easter so maybe i will see some of you then. UBIQUE

I'm trying to trace a photograph that I have in my possession of the liberation of Amsterdam, Holland on May 7th or 8th, 1945. There are two military people and a number of Dutch citizens on the picture (I believe a Bren gun carrier) that I would like to contact if they are still alive. Whom do I send this picture to for identification of two soldiers?

I was a Hasty P on Active Service from Jul 1952 until they were desginated Militia, I believe that year was late 1953. We were transferred to 4th Bat Cdn Gds and sent to Korea. If it hadn't been for that event the Hasty Ps would have been in Korea as well as all the other exploits. You have a great Site and I enjoyed it immensely. I do recall though I wore a Scarlet Beret during my time but while viewing the Pictures I noticed the Berets are all dark now, is my observation correct? Keep up the good work.
