Dear Comrades enlisted and alumni.
Happy New Year from Port McNicoll, Ontario, south eastern Georgian Bay area.
We have much to give thanks for, but need to lobby for and on the behalf of those in our regular and reserve forces.
I believe that if this country is great, and it is, all adults have a responsibility to serve this country in the Airforce, Army or Navy.
Each person to serve for example, 6 years in the militia or 2 years in the regular services, length of service time to be determined by experienced regulars and militia personnel.
Military service must include EVERY Canadian, to and including a prime ministers sons and daughters, within appropiate age groups.
Handicapped persons may be assigned to tasks at a level their abilities will allow them to function at, so no one is left out.
I understand military personnel are not permitted to lobby on their own behalf, so the challenge to change things is left with you and I, who are no longer enlisted.
Write your MP in Ottawa, write the Department of National Defense minister and deputy with copies to the prime minister and anyone else that may play a part in correcting and improving a less than satisfactory military presence in our country. Letters to Ottawa are stamp free, you have more than already paid for them!
Keep the letters posative and shy away from any negative or disparaging comments.
I believe we all endorse a strong military in this country of Canada, in order to be able to thwart the tyrants from without and from within!
Paratus
Paul Twigg

Merry Christmas to the past and present members of the Regt. Especially to all of those that I served with. Have a happy and safe holiday season and a wonderful 2005. It is nice to see that members of the Regt finally followed my posting with CFNA by going on a winter ex in the Arctic. Took long enough. I would encourage all those that get a chance at a trip like that to take it because it is a very unique experience to go north and work with the Canadian Rangers.

Just a quick update, I'm now flying Boeing 727's out of Toronto for a living, and still parading as a CIC officer (still in blue) with 242 Sqn in Erin Ontario. I am, and have always been a Hasty Pee at heart, and will be until I have the privelege of being transferred to the White Brigade (however not for a long time I hope).

Rememberance day has passed and I find myself thinking of my grandfather William Arthur Bowles, who has since passed. He served with the "Hasty P's" from 1939 to 1945. I remember he had a photo of the regiment, and us kids would try and pick him out of all the guys. He never spoke much of the war and those years. But occassionally things came out. As a young kid some things seemed so hard to believe. I now realize the truth of witch he seldomly spoke. Thanks to this web page, I now have an idea of his service, and understand PARATUS> (ready) which appears on the badge of the regiment. I wish he had shared more, but I think it was painful for him. I also Thank all those past and present who wear the uniform, and protect our freedom. THANK-YOU

I am writing though to get the attention of Doreen BAXTER who posted on Oct/31/02, saying she had a photo of the gravestone of Pvt. J.J. Chapman who was killed at Montecassino. She wated to know if anyone was interested in having the photo. I wrote to you Doreen but your address bounces now in 2004. If you read this please contact me directly. Pvt Chapman was the Dad of our very close friends. They have no e mail and live in the country here in S. Ontario. We can get the photo to them. All we know of an address for the only remaining child of Pvt. Chapman is that he lives in Apsley. Thanks.

I have a couple of questions I would like to ask,and I hope some one some where knows the answers. 1) Does anyone remember my father. Alfred (Benny) Benstead? He inlisted in 1939,served overseas ( wounded twice), then stayed in the army and retired in 1964 as a WO2 in the RCASC. He passed away in 1998. If they do know him please feel free to email me.
2) Does anyone have any information on the 'Toronto Ex-Sargents Association'? My father was a member and he attended the last annual dinner at Moss Park Armory in 1973. I would like to know if this association is still around.
Thank you for taking the time to read this posting, and thank you for any help you can give.

What a wonderful site you have here. I am the proud son-in-law of a very proud Plough Jockey, Oswald Milner. Ossie went over with the first draft in 1939 and tells many stories of their training and duties in England and Scotland. Ossie was in "A" Coy and came off the landing craft in Sicly beside WO2 Nutley. Ossie was shot by a sniper, through the groin, just after the battle at the Assoro Crossroads. He was sent to hospital in North Africa, patched up then returned to "A" Coy in mid Oct of 43. On the night of Dec 13/43, he was wounded by motar fragments for the second time and while on a stretcher at the RAP, on Dec 14th, was again wounded by artillery fire. He somehow survived this carnage and again was sent to hospital in North Africa. Ossie became the first Canadian soldier to be returned to Canada under the "Triwound scheme". He is now 83 and lives with my wife and I in Picton. We celebrate 2 birthdays for him every year; the one he needed to go with the first draft to England, and his original one. Keep up the good work on this fine site.

Read the older pages of the guest book and remember a few names. I started out as a cadet (compulsary) at BCIVS in 1959, then at Moira started the cadet corps there with the first inspecting officer Lt. Col. Angus Duffy. At the same time I started in the summer recruit program in 1960 where Maj. Bill Cochrane was the OC. Upon completion I was in support company. In 1961 I attended a Jr. NCO course in Barriefield and returned to the unit as a corporal. In the summer of 1962 I was a corporal instructor at Camp Ipperwash. I resigned in 1963 due to moving to St. Catharines. A few names I remember are: Sgt. Scott,Pte.Pearson,Maj.Black, and of course Lt.Col Angus Duffy. I do have fond memories of Co. Duffy as he came to see my graduation at Barriefield and enjoyed talking to my parents. I also remember talking to him where he lived on Hastings drive as I walked my girlfriend home after school. I certainly enjoyed all the time there and am proud to be a HastyP.

For all those looking for military service records on family members, I have added where one looks for such information including the web address and their instructions for service after 1918.
Best of luck in your search
www.genealogy.gc.ca Canadian Forces after 1918 Research at Library and Archives Canada About the Records Military personnel files include documentation about enlistment, discharge, military units served with, and may also include other documents concerning medical history, medals awarded, personal evaluation reports and dental charts. There is no online database for these records.
Requests for Information We try to answer inquiries within 30 days; however, our Personnel Records Unit receives over 2,000 inquiries a month, which can affect response time. Priority service is given to people who require documentation to prove that they qualify for pensions, allowances, claims and other benefits.
For projects involving research in a large number of files, the request will be assessed by our staff to determine if current resources can accommodate such an extensive commitment.
How to Send an Inquiry Concerning Your Own or Another Individual’s Records Your request must be signed. To identify a file, we require surname, full given name(s), date of birth, and service number or social insurance number. If you do not know the date of birth, service number or S.I.N. (social insurance number), secondary information (e.g., the names of next of kin, postings, dates of service, place of enlistment) can assist in identifying the correct individual. Consult the section below on Access Restrictions. Please specify what document(s) you require. If you are doing family history research, we recommend that you request a “genealogy package,” which will include copies of selected documents from the file that highlight/summarize the individual’s service. We do not accept e-mail inquiries for these records. Inquiries should be sent by mail or fax to: Personnel Records Unit Library and Archives Canada 395 Wellington Street Ottawa, ON K1A 0N3 Fax: (613) 947-8456

I am the proud grandaughter of Vincent Decevito who served in WWII. I would love to get a copy of records from when he served to have a better understanding of where he's been. It is my understanding that his service # is B116334. He was a private injured by a grenade. Once shipped back home, he started his family and eventually, sadly to say, he succombed to Alzheimerz and Parkinsonism on December 22nd, 2002. It is with total pride and honor that I would like to get this information to share with our family and remind everyone of what he stood and fought for. Having friends and family in the military for various generations, my grandfather has and will always be my greatest hero.

I am also proudly serving in the canadian military and I am currently living in Belgium until 2007. I would love to obtain a copy of my grandfathers records so I may retrace his steps while he served overseas. I know he was in C Coy and I have a photocopy of a picture with this company taken in Nov 39. My mom said that his friends called my grandpa "Jigger or Casey". If you have any information about his time in England, France and Continental Europe during WWII I would deeply appreciate the assistance in keeping the memory of the sacrifices made by our soldiers in WWII. His service number was C4746. I thank you for your time, sincerely Kelly-Marie

Web Site Looks great! I served with the Hasty P's from 1978-90. Some of you may remember me from the Mor Pl, or the many SYEP summer crses that I taught on. Nice to hear how parnell, neal, moses, garvin, widger, valence, tracy rochon/fancy etc and the kerenaghans are doing. Have bumped into a few other westies MWO Steve Smith - He is working at LFAA HQ, Maj Rob Bradford at NDHQ and Pte Greg Gray in Toronto and Cpl Andrea Middleton also in Toronto. Like to hear from those who might remember me. Of course the RSM and i were course mates on TQ 1 together. Seems like only yesterday Jim! I'm currently serving with the Westies in BC. Annually I take pride in toasting "The fallen and the members of the White Battalion!" One a Hasty P....

This auction ends at 3 am EST on January 2nd but hopefully the numerous pictures portrayed in the listing will remain on the webpage for some time after the auction ends. Go to ebay.ca and do a search on "Midland Regiment" - in quotes. I note that the MIDLAND REGIMENT was amalgamated into the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in 1954.

When anyone in the Sigs world mentions "The Regiment" they are usually refering to 79 Comm Reg't, or the JSR, but my first thoughts are always of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. Afterall, the is only one "The Regiment", and we have the book to prove it!

Hi Hasty P's I am a daughter of a Hasty P. Pte Stanley G. Booth. My dad went to the white battalion in May 2001. I miss his stories about how proud he was of The Regiment. I am hoping to attend the reunion in 2004. As a child and young adult I came with him and my mom Cathy to the annual reunion event. It was a real joy to attend. It taught me so much about the price of freedom. Hearing stories and seeing the men and whay they were about was an honor. I am glad to see that the museum is on the main floor now. I will be laying a wreath at this years' Remembrance Day service at the Waterloo Memorial in honor of my father. It will also be in honor of all the men and women of this Regiment who serve now or have given themselves in the past. I will be as my father was, forever Paratus. Shelley

I am currently in Belgium for the next 4 years. My daughter is military and posted to NATO. While here, I want to retrace the steps my father THOMAS LAWRENCE SHANNON did during WWII with the Hasty P's. He was in company C stationed out of Picton from 1939 to 1945. His service service number was C4647. Dad didn't talk much about the war and its horrors, but would on occasion talk about the good times. I vaguely remember him talking about Caen and Brest. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thankyou. My dad was know as JIGGER to the men from company C.
