My father, Frederick James Howarth was a private in the Hastings & Prince Edward. He passed away almost 20 years ago now. I still have his beret. My brother who has since died, had possesion of his medals which are now lost. Is there any way of finding out what medals my father had, and why?I would also be interested in learning about my fathers activities with the Hasty Pees from 1939 to 1945. He never talked about his war experiences. I know he attended one or two reunions in Picton and thoroughly enjoyed himself.I still have an opened gallon of rye he won at one of those reunions.
Regards,
Paul Frederick Howarth

After all these years, it's great to see a site on the Regiment my late father Leonard Donaldson Dennis so proudly remembered. He died in l969. He was a Sgt. with the Hastings Prince Edward, being wounded in 1944 in Italy. Like many other descendents, I too never heard him say much about his war experiences. I still had his coat from his time during the war, which I have now handed down to my son who is currently serving with the PPCLI3. My father would have been very proud. I also still have his Department of National Defence statement of service gratutity. It amounted to the grand sum of $860.99. Again thanks for the site.

Great site!
During the war there were 4 brothers in the Regt. They were my grandfather and his brothers. My grandfathers name was Mervyn Gaebel. Would you have any info on him or his brothers such as service number?
Thanks for your time

My great uncle served as a Hasty Pee during the second world war and was captured in Italy. He passed away when I was younger and I never really ever got the chance to learn about his service and experiences.Recent world events have found me thinking about how important remembering the past is. I have two boys of my own now and I would like them to know their family history. My grandmother's memories are second hand and a bit foggy so I'm hoping that I can find out more about his service records and/or any one who may remember him. His name was Ronald (Ron) Hawthorn and he enlisted early in the war coming from Toronto to do so. He was a Pte. and I believe he was captured around Ortona (as best as my grandmother can remember) after being sent back to the front lines from R&R. This information may not be reliable, but it's what I have to start with. I thank anyone who has taken a few moments to read this and may be able to help me in my search. One last thing, to all those who fought for us during the last war:THANK YOU
God bless

I am the neice of one of your veterans. I am Robert Wright's neice. I have been trying to find info on him and maybe a picture or two as my mother (his sister) has none and she is not well. My greatest gift to her would be a picture of his gravesite, but I am not able to travel there to do this. If you have any info, I would be ever so greatful.

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the Hasty P's. My grandfather was with the regiment during the Second World War and fought in Ortona and all throughout Central Europe. His name was Simon Dumont, a man I never really knew. My father, Stan, Simon's son, has taken an avid interest in Simon's experiences overseas. Anyone with any information, photos or anything relating to my grandfather, please feel free to email me back. I would enjoy speaking with you. I am trying to get any photos or mementos possible for my father.

I was a former Cpl with "A" coy /later Assoro, the regiment was my family. Good to see it has a well deserved site. I went on from there to the PPCLI realized that reg life is not my cup of tea, got out and eventually worked as a fleet manager with the Canadian Parachute Centre (former airborne), then as a tranport driver and now i'm working at the Royal Military college of Canada in Kingston with the Environmental Sciences Group doing Logistics and Purchasing my experiences with the Hast & PER made me and lead me to be the person I am today as well as guided me through the jobs I've had.
I am forever in the Regement's debt for guiding me through my impressionable yrs. Skip Simpson good to see that you are at the top of the chain.

Would appreciate receiving any information regarding an uncle, Don Grass, who enlisted within days of the declaration of war in 1939. Went overseas in December of the same year. Was in the landing at Sicily and travelled up the boot and into southern France (apparently) at war's end. Trained as a 'Siggy' and may have been posted to Regimental then Brigade as a rider. Often spoke of beatling about on an Indian motorcylce. Never spoke of his experiences but there are a number of apocryphal stories about his exploits in Italy. Anyone out there remember that far back?

Although I only served with the Hasty Pees B Coy during the summer of '75, I feel a special bond with the Regiment. Having lived in Warkworth at the time it was not feasible for me to continue as a militiaman. I joined the reg force in '82, but still look back on my memories of that long ago summer with fondness. I am a nephew of Colonel Bruce Sutcliffe of the Hasty Pees. Bruce was killed in an nighttime patrol in Sicily July 23, 1943.That was an interesting E mail from Ruth Kidd. By co-incidence I also had a brother, living in Ireland who died in 1999. He was not in the service , but my father was Colonel Charles Kidd , who survived the WW 2 . My father served with the Canadian Army , then transferred to the British Army. He died in 1970 at the age of 54.
He served in Alexandria, Egypt, Malta & after WW2 ended , for a time in Hamberg , Germany.
I would be happy to hear from anyone who knew Bruce or Charles.

I hope to attend the Reunion in Picton in Sept.

Good luck Ruth in your quest for information. Wish I could have been of help

Having been a member of "THE REGIMENT" from 1974-1977 it was very nice to see this site. I went on to serve with the Canadian Military Engineers from 1977-1996 and am presently serving with 14 Airfield Engineering Heavy Reserve Squadron in Bridgewater, Novia Scotia. Seeing this site has brought back a lot of fond memories for me. The Hasty Pee's helped to put me on the path to better things in life due mainly to Carl Ward who, for some reason, took an interest in turning me into a soldier. I'm planing to retire from the military in July next year and come back to the Belleville area. I'm looking forward to dropping in to the Armouries when I get there. To all the past and present members of the Regiment Best Wishes and PARATUS. "Great Site"

I'm e-mailing from Vancouver. My Grandfather served in this Regiment during World War II. His name was David Kyd. His brother Charles also fought with him. I looked at the list of names in the White Battalion and see that his brother is listed as Charles T Kidd. This is not the spelling of our family name (or so I thought). I am very interested to know more about the regiment and its role in Italy as well as the rest of the war. My Grandfather fought the entire duration of the war and returned home in one piece. However, he died before I was born. I have heard that he fought in France and Germany but I see no mention of those countries in the battle honours. Could my family be mistaken? Or was the France and Germany star awarded to members of this unit? If any one knew him I would like to hear about him. He was 5'5, had dark brown hair, blue eyes and was not an officer. I have a picture of him in front of a barracks of sorts, but his cap badge does not look like the one I see on this web page. Did the cap badge change at any time? Or could it have been a temporary one worn for training. I joined the Seaforth Highlanders Cadet Corps when I was 14, and joined the Seaforth Highlanders at the age of 18 (as an infantry soldier). I need to know more about my Grandfather and the regiment that played such a huge role in the history of my family. As a soldier, I would like to know how accurate my family history is. Would his name (David Kyd or Kidd) be in regimental archives as a serving member during WW II. Please e-mail me if any one has any information at all.

Sincerly and respectfully, Ruth Kyd

Well done site!!! Makes me homesick for mud and cold IMP's. The Hasty P's (B Coy 77-79) gave me my start in the military, and an open door to RMC. I now wear an Air Force blue uniform (sorry guys) and am serving as a CIC Officer in Georgetown, but I do miss the brotherhood of the Regiment.
