Joined the Hasty Pee's in 61 at Norwood Arm's. Had such a great time. So good that I went Reg Force in 62. QOR of C, PPCLI, Svc Corps (Tpt) and then Logistics. Retired in 92 but still work with the Cadets each summer. If not for the fantastic start to my career, God knows what I would have chosen for a career. For that I thank the Reg't. Also I thank Bill Rothwell, Then Capt Rothwell. Does anyone know what became of him or if possible, how I could contact him? PARATUS! Dan

Just a quick note. My 21 month old daughter introduced me to a very nice, and patient, older women at church today. The women's name is Kathlynn Bowman. After a few minutes of conversation, I learned that Ms. Bowman was a retired Canadian Army nurse who served in Italy during WWII. She informed me that she had nursed a large number of Hasty Pees and that she had recently visited Canadian Army grave sites in Italy that contain a large number of Hasty Pees. She spoke very higher of the "lively farmers from Southern Ontario".

On 2 August 1944 my uncle,B-138552 Pte James W.M Dillon, Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in Canada Barracks at Avellino Italy. It seems that the murderer was a Pte of the Seaforth Highlanders .It has long been known to my family that Pte Dillon died in circumstances other than enemy action, but I only recently began to learn the whole story when I obtained a copy of his service file. His surviving brother and two surviving sisters are very interested in learning more. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who knew Jim Dillon and to anyone familiar with the events of his death or his service in Italy. Thank you. Jim Howey Waterloo Ont.

Hello to all; been a long time and finding this site has brought a lump to my throat. I miss the Regiment deeply and wish i had never left her. Was such a joy to see this sight; it brings back alot of great memories of the Regiment and of the friends and comrades I served with. If anyone knows the where abouts of WO. Ward, please let me know. I would like to talk to him. Some of the old timers will remember me. I think i'm the only one with the regimental crest tattooed onto my chest. Damned near got charged for it by WO.Ward for self inflicted wounding. LOL! And to the new members of the Regiment... she has a long history; one to be proud of. She won many battle honours bought with the lives of many brave young men who gave their all and their names will remain forever in the rolls of The White Battalion. Be sure to read "The Regiment" as you never know when Duffy's Ghost will appear, and be ready to answer his questions .......Mcpl. Jones

Congratulations on an outstanding Change of Command Parade yesterday in Belleville. I was attached to the old 'B Coy' in Peterborough from 1978 - 80 as a platoon commander when attending university. So I attended your parade yesterday to pay my respects to Alex McLeod (your outgoing CO) and Skip Simpson (incoming), and chat with some old friends.
A lot of work had obviously gone into the parade, the reception, and the Regimental Dinner in the Belleville Armoury afterwards. I congratulate you on these successful events, and on the soldiers' great turnout and drill.
I was also impressed by the number of former members and friends who turned out to witness this important moment in the Regiment's life. The sight of the Old Guard with their special berets -- now worn too by LCol McLeod -- was quite something.
Finally, I am impressed with your web site. Very well done.
Reservists face many challenges, and this is likely to continue. But I continue to be impressed with the way your Regiment handles them. From what I saw yesterday, you have an excellent team in place to do so.
Best wishes to all of you in Belleville, Peterborough, Cobourg, and surrounding areas,
Bruce G. McEachern Lieutenant-Colonel Commanding Officer The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada Toronto
